Moshi to Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Elevation: 2,100 meters / 6,888 feet (Lemosho Gate)

After breakfast, you will drive to Lemosho Gate (about 2 hours from Moshi) to begin your ascent. After completing the necessary park registration, you’ll begin your hike through lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp. The trail is gradual, offering great opportunities for spotting wildlife like monkeys and birds.

Today, the trail takes you through the dense montane forest, eventually transitioning to the heathland zone. You'll experience a steady climb, with rewarding views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The night will be spent at Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the mountain.

Today’s trek takes you higher into the alpine zone. The landscape becomes more barren, and the air thinner. As you hike toward Shira 2 Camp, you will pass through vast, open spaces and rocky terrain. The views are spectacular, and you’ll likely catch glimpses of Kilimanjaro’s upper glaciers as you continue your ascent. At Shira 2 Camp, you will settle into your private luxury tent, complete with comfortable beds, a private toilet, and oxygen support if necessary. After the hike, enjoy a warm meal in the mess tent, where you can relax and take in the views.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3,960 meters (12,992 feet) 

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles) 

Hiking Time: 6-7 hours 

Habitat: Alpine Desert 

On Day 5,after breakfast you will hike from Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp. This is a longer day with stunning scenery. The trail crosses through the alpine desert zone, where you’ll encounter sparse vegetation and rocky terrain. One of the highlights of the day is the climb up the Barranco Wall—a short but exhilarating scramble that leads to Barranco Camp, there will be packed lunch along the way. After the climb, your luxury private tent will be waiting for you at Barranco Camp, equipped with comfortable bedding, private toilet, and oxygen support if needed. The mess tent will offer a gourmet dinner to help replenish your energy after the day’s trek.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 4,035 meters (13,238 feet) 

Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles)

After breakfast trek from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp takes you along ridges with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. The trail is steep at times, but the scenery makes every step worthwhile. Karanga Camp sits at a beautiful location and is a good place to rest and acclimatize for the summit push. At Karanga Camp, you will enjoy the comforts of your private luxury tent, complete with a comfortable bed, private toilet, wash tent, and oxygen support. You’ll also enjoy another delicious meal in the mess tent.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4,750 meters (15,584 feet) 

Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles) 

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Today’s hike is relatively short but steep as you ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The terrain is barren and rocky, and the air gets thinner as you ascend. Once at Barafu Camp, you’ll have some time to rest before your final summit push. Your luxury private tent will be ready, offering a comfortable bed, private toilet, wash tent, and oxygen support if necessary. A hot meal will be served in the mess tent, ensuring you’re well-fueled for the challenging summit day ahead.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then Descent to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) 

Distance: 8 km (5 miles) ascent, 13 km (8 miles) descent 

Hiking Time: 8-12 hours ascent, 4-5 hours descent 

Habitat: Arctic 

The summit push begins in the early hours of the morning after breakfast, you will ascend through the night to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The climb is challenging, but the reward of standing on top of the world is unforgettable. After your summit celebration, you’ll begin your descent to Mweka Camp. This descent is long but provides a sense of relief after the summit. At Mweka Camp, you will be greeted with a warm welcome, and your luxury tent will be ready with a comfortable bed, private toilet, and oxygen support. A celebratory meal will be served in the mess tent.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi

Elevation: 1,800 meters (5,906 feet) 

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles) 

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours 

Habitat: Rainforest 

After breakfast, you’ll begin the final descent to Mweka Gate through the rainforest. The descent is easy and offers beautiful views of the tropical forest. Once you reach the gate you will receive your summit certificate, After that your vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel in Moshi, where you can celebrate your achievement in comfort.

Moshi – Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

After a well-deserved rest at your hotel in Moshi, it’s time to conclude your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure. You will enjoy a leisurely breakfast, reflecting on your incredible journey to Africa’s highest peak. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to explore Moshi or shop for souvenirs. At the designated time, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure. As you bid farewell to Tanzania, you leave with unforgettable memories of the 10-day Lemosho Route trek, the breathtaking landscapes, and the triumph of reaching Uhuru Peak.
