A lunch stop will be made at Fort Portal, where you can stretch and shop before continuing to Kasese. This scenic drive takes about 7–8 hours, leading you to the foothills of the Rwenzori. You will spend the night at a budget guesthouse near the base camp, preparing for your trek.

Enter the afro-alpine zone of giant lobelias and groundsels before a final boggy push to John Matte Huts. This is considered one of the toughest days, taking 7–8 hours.
