Moshi to Machame Camp

Day 1 begin with a sunrise over Machame Camp and a hearty breakfast before our 5 km trek to Shira Camp. The dense rainforest faded into moorland, with rocky terrain and thinning air making each step harder. Despite the challenge, breathtaking valley views and Kilimanjaro’s towering peak kept us motivated. By midday, we stopped for a hot meal, re-energizing before continuing the ascent. Reaching Shira Camp at 12,600 ft (3,850 m), exhaustion set in, but the stunning panorama made it worthwhile. The altitude was noticeable, yet the sense of accomplishment was strong. After settling in, we rested, found the washrooms, and shared stories of the day’s climb. As night fell, we enjoyed a warm dinner, reflecting on the journey so far. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air as we prepared for the challenges ahead, knowing each step brought us closer to the summit.

Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp

Day 2 starts with a chilly 6:00 AM wake-up at Shira Cave Camp (12,600 ft). After a hearty breakfast, we begin the slow ascent to Lava Tower Camp (15,223 ft), feeling the effects of the thinning air and taking frequent rests. By noon, we reached Lava Tower Camp and enjoyed a warm lunch of soup, sandwiches, and fruit. Some climbers used supplemental oxygen to adjust to the altitude. After a break, we descended toward Barranco Camp (13,044 ft), where the thicker air brought relief. Along the way, we admired the towering Seneca plants. By late afternoon, we arrived at Barranco Camp, exhausted but content. A warm dinner of rice, vegetables, and meat restored our energy. As night fell, we reflected on the day’s challenge and prepared for the Barranco Wall ahead. With Kilimanjaro looming above, we rested, savoring the journey so far and gathering strength for the next leg of our adventure.

Shira Cave Camp to Lava Tower Camp to Barranco Camp

Day 3 begin with a sunrise over Barranco Camp (3,960m), bringing warmth to the chilly air. After breakfast, we tackled the Barranco Wall, a steep scramble requiring endurance and balance. With the help of guides, we reached the top (~4,200m), rewarded with breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and the valleys below. The trail then crossed rocky ridges before descending into Karanga Valley, where thicker air provided relief. A final uphill stretch led to Karanga Camp (4,035m), where we acclimatized to the thinning oxygen. In the afternoon, we rested, hydrated, and took short acclimatization hikes. As the sun set, we enjoyed a warm dinner of rice, vegetables, and meat, restoring our energy. With the summit push ahead, we reflected on the day’s challenges and prepared for the trek to Barafu Camp.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 4 begin early at Barranco Camp (3,960m) with a crisp morning and light stretches. After a hearty breakfast of porridge, eggs, toast, and tea, the group set off at 7:30 AM, staying hydrated for the higher altitude. The first challenge was the Barranco Wall, a two-hour scramble requiring hands and feet. Reaching the top (~4,200m), climbers were rewarded with breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and the valleys below. By late morning, they paused for lunch—sandwiches, fruit, and tea—before continuing. The trek descended into Karanga Valley, followed by a final uphill stretch to Karanga Camp (4,035m), arriving around 2:30 PM. After setting up camp, climbers rested, acclimatized, and enjoyed a warm dinner of rice, vegetables, and meat. With the summit push approaching, the evening was spent reflecting and preparing for the next challenge.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Day 5 begin early at Karanga Camp (4,035m) with a crisp morning and light stretches. After a hearty breakfast of porridge, eggs, toast, and tea, the group set off at 7:00 AM for the steep ascent to Barafu Camp (4,640m). The trail was rocky and narrow, with thinning air requiring a steady pace and frequent breaks. Some climbers used supplemental oxygen to manage the altitude. By 12:30 PM, they paused for lunch—sandwiches, fruit, and tea—before the final push. Navigating rocky paths and steeper sections, they reached Barafu Camp by 2:00 PM. After setting up, they rested, hydrated, and prepared for the summit push. Dinner at 5:30 PM included rice, vegetables, and meat. The evening was quiet, with climbers conserving energy for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, now just hours away.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

On Day 6, climbers begin the ascent from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak at midnight. The cold, crisp air and starry sky greeted them as they stretched and enjoyed a light breakfast of tea, porridge, and snacks. By 1:00 AM, they started the climb, guided by headlamps. The air was thin, making each step challenging, but steady progress was made with regular hydration breaks. Some used supplemental oxygen to ease the strain. As dawn broke at 6:00 AM, the sky turned orange and pink, bringing hope as the summit drew closer. The final push was tough, but by 7:00 AM, they reached the peak at 5,895 meters, filled with joy and pride. After celebrating briefly, they began descending, returning to Barafu Camp for a quick rest and a light lunch. They continued their descent to Mweka Camp, energized and proud of their achievement.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

On Day 7, climbers woke early at Barafu Camp (4,640m) feeling accomplished after summiting the day before. Despite the cold morning, excitement was high. After a quick breakfast, the descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m) began. The group steadily moved down the rocky trail, taking breaks to hydrate and maintain energy. As they descended, the air thickened, providing relief from the higher altitudes. The barren summit landscape soon gave way to lush rainforest, enhancing the beauty of the descent. By lunchtime, they enjoyed sandwiches and fruit before continuing. The group reached Mweka Camp by mid-afternoon, exhausted but relieved. After setting up camp and resting, they enjoyed a warm dinner of rice, vegetables, and meat. After dinner, they packed for the final stretch. They were then driven to Kilimanjaro White House Hotel for hot showers and comfortable beds, marking the end of their incredible journey.

Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

After a restful night at Kilimanjaro White House Hotel, you wake up early, proud to have completed your Kilimanjaro trek. You enjoy breakfast and do some light stretching before heading out. By 5:00 AM, you take a shuttle to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), reflecting on the journey you’ve just completed. Upon arrival, you thank your guides and porters, complete your check-in, and head to the departure gate, feeling accomplished and excited to return home.
