Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts

Destination: Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro National Park

After breakfast, transfer to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate to complete registration and obtain permits. Begin hiking through the dense rainforest towards Mandara Huts. The path may be muddy and slippery; trekking poles are recommended. Enjoy sightings of black-and-white Colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Arrive at Mandara Huts, where shared dormitory accommodation and simple meals are provided, offering basic comfort for your first night on the mountain.

Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts

Destination: Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro National Park

Elevation: 9,000 ft / 2,700 m to 12,100 ft / 3,700 m

Distance: 11 km

Time: 6–8 hours

Climatic Zone: Heathland / Moorland

Trek out of the rainforest into open moorland, gradually ascending towards Horombo Huts. Enjoy scenic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks and the unique flora of this zone, including giant lobelias and groundsels. Overnight at Horombo Huts with shared dormitory accommodation and simple meals. Take time to rest and hydrate as you acclimatize to the altitude.

Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts

Destination: Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro National Park

Elevation: 12,100 ft / 3,700 m to 15,400 ft / 4,700 m

Distance: 10 km

Time: 6–8 hours

Climatic Zone: Alpine Desert

Leave Horombo and trek through the barren Kilimanjaro Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape transforms into an otherworldly alpine desert. This stretch is excellent for acclimatization ahead of the summit attempt. Rest and enjoy a hot meal at Kibo Huts, your final stop before the summit push. Dormitory accommodation is provided. Prepare your gear and clothing for the cold midnight ascent.

Kibo Huts to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Huts

Destination: Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro National Park

Elevation: 15,400 ft / 4,700 m to 19,300 ft / 5,895 m to 12,100 ft / 3,700 m

Distance: 4 km ascent / 14 km descent

Time: 10–15 hours

Climatic Zone: Alpine Desert

Begin your summit climb around midnight with light snacks and hot tea. Ascend a steep, rocky trail to Gilman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. Witness the breathtaking sunrise over the continent before descending back to Horombo Huts, with a stop for lunch at Kibo. Enjoy your final night on the mountain in shared accommodation with simple, nourishing meals.

Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate, Drive to Moshi

Destination: Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro National Park

Elevation: 12,100 ft / 3,700 m to 5,500 ft / 1,700 m

Distance: 18 km

Time: 5–7 hours

Descend through the moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Return to Moshi for a hot shower and light refreshments at your hotel. Celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro climb with your team before your journey back.

Moshi to Dar es Salaam

After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight back to Dar es Salaam.  This marks the end of your unforgettable 5-day budget Kilimanjaro adventure.
