Today’s trek is a steady but steep climb as you ascend from Miriakamba Huts to Saddle Huts, located at the base of Little Meru. The trail takes you through vibrant montane forest before reaching the Elephant Back Ridge, a scenic halfway point with sweeping views. As you climb higher, the landscape transforms into moorland, with towering giant heather and unique high-altitude vegetation lining the path. You’ll reach Saddle Huts in time for lunch and a well-earned rest. In the afternoon, there’s an optional acclimatization hike up to Little Meru (3,820m / 12,533ft), a short but rewarding trek offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and plains. It takes about an hour to reach the top and just 30 minutes to descend.

Summit Attempt – Descend to Trailhead – Return to Moshi
Your summit push begins just after midnight for an early morning ascent. The first challenge is a steep 1-hour climb to Rhino Point (3,800m / 12,467ft), followed by a rugged trail leading to Cobra Point (4,350m / 14,272ft). As the sun starts to rise, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro floating on a sea of clouds, the dramatic crater cliffs, and the towering Ash Cone. A final push takes you to the summit of Socialist Peak (4,566m / 14,980ft)—the highest point on Mount Meru.
